On the 26th and
27th of April 2007 the
Dutch Philosophers’ Rally will be
held in Groningen, the
Netherlands. This event will take place at
the Faculty of Philosophy, Oude Boteringestraat 52, Groningen.
The Philosophers’ Rally Groningen is an
international two-day conference in which the
fascination with philosophy in all its shapes
and forms will be the central theme. The Rally
strives to offer a stimulating environment, in
which students, researchers and teachers in
philosophy have the chance to present their
research and ideas to other academic
philosophers. The aim is to offer young,
enthusiastic beginners and more experienced
practitioners of philosophy the opportunity to
meet and to discuss their work and particularly
their fascination with their own philosophical
subject. To give the Rally more depth, the
lectures will feature not only speakers from
the Groningen University, but from all Dutch
Universities and even beyond. This
international orientation entails that most
lectures will be given in English.
The Rally will feature two plenary lectures
by guest speakers on both days, lasting
approximately one hour. In addition, there will
be several parallel workshops sessions, which
will last about 45 minutes each. Due to the
fact that the emphasis lays on meeting
potential colleagues and creating a dialogue
between different approaches, there is no
specific subject on which all speakers will
focus. Instead, we ask our lecturers to give an
engaging presentation which will invite
audience interaction through questions and
discussion. Participation is thus an integral
part of the workshops, and will be stimulated
as such through the open form of the workshops.
The organization of the Philosophers’
Rally is comprised of a group of enthusiastic
students from the Faculty of Philosophy of the
University of Groningen. They are assisted by
many other ‘inhabitants’ of the
Faculty.
